A Simple Wardrobe

I just did a major closet organization. It feels SO good to look in my closet and only see clothes that I actually like and want to wear. I’d much rather have a closet with only 60-80 items in it that I really want to wear than 200-300 items that I don’t! If you are ready to do an overhaul in your closet, below are some of the items that you should give away or keep to get started on that project.

Items to give away – this is the time to be brutal! Don’t think about it, just do it! Toss anything on this list easily and immediately:

  • Clothes that don’t fit – too small or too big
  • Clothes that you haven’t worn in 2 years or more
  • Clothes that you don’t like
  • Any “holiday only” clothing that you won’t wear this year
  • Clothes that you are waiting to come back into style
  • Excess clothing – if you own 6 different black t-shirts, get rid of 3-5 of them!

Items to Keep:

  • 1 pair of Jeans that you LOVE
  • A little black dress
  • Your “funeral” outfit
  • Your “wedding” outfit
  • Your Easter dress
  • 8-10 everyday spring/summer T-shirts/blouses
  • 8-10 everyday fall/winter long-sleeved tops, sweaters, hoodies or cardigans
  • 2-4 pairs of jeans or pants
  • 2-4 pairs of leggings/jeggings
  • 8-10 sleeveless or short-sleeved blouses for work
  • 5-6 short or long-sleeved cardigans for work
  • 5-6 long-sleeved blouses for work
  • 4-5 dress slacks for work
  • 2-4 skirts for work

That’s pretty much it! Of course, everyone will have different needs based on their lifestyle and careers, but this should give you a starting point or some ideas on how to downsize your wardrobe. 🙂
